Day 4 of Gratitude has me writing about something I love: food. I’ve always loved food, but as I get older, it has begun to love me more, and wants to stick with me longer. Not cool. I think I need to spend more time with my other friend (more like an acquaintance), exercise.
On with the gratitude!
4. What food are you most grateful for?
A: This is a tough one for me. I like a lot of foods, but I’m most grateful for food that I don’t have to share. As my husband would say, I have runt syndrome. I don’t share well. I will gladly make you your own serving of what I’m eating, but keep your dang paws off mine! I’m ashamed to admit that I even have trouble sharing with my daughter at times. I grew up poor at times, and I think that’s where this stems from.
As far as specific foods, I tend to enjoy both ends of the spectrum: fatty, creamy, carby comfort foods, or fresh, bright raw fruits, veggies and salads. I love my grandpa’s recipe for fettuccine alfredo, but I also love veggie sushi. As a kid, I loved nothing more than a can of black olives and a jar of dill pickles. As a teen, my tastes evolved to a steady diet of Coca Cola, Doritos and beef jerky. Now that I struggle with my weight at times, I’ve had to let go of a lot of that junk. I’m not always happy about it, to be honest!
What foods do you love? Do you indulge, or do you have to stay away? Have your tastes changed?
